Funding for your green efforts

There are a number of opportunities available for organizations within Hamilton County to receive funding to promote their sustainability. ReSource can help connect you with those funds! We offer our own grants and also assist organizations apply for grants from the Ohio EPA. Read more about the current opportunities below.

Hamilton County Recycling ReSource Grants

Hamilton County Recycling ReSource offers grants for communities, schools, non-profit organizations, and businesses.

  • ReSource Impact Grant
    ReSource Impact Grant Hamilton County Recycling ReSource

    ReSource Impact Grant

    APPLICANT: The ReSource Impact Grant is open to any type of organization

    DATE: Proposals due April 3, 2024

    AMOUNT: $100,000 available per project

    DETAILS

    • 25% match required – non-profit match may be “in kind”
    • Up to $50,000 of grant funds released up front, remainder released once all spending is complete. Any unused grant funds will need to be returned.
    • 24 months to complete the project

  • Waste Reduction Innovation Grant

    Waste Reduction Innovation Grant

    APPLICANT: The Waste Reduction Innovation Grant is open to any type of organization

    DATE: No due date for grant proposals 

    AMOUNT: $15,000 available per project 

    DETAILS

    • 25% match required – non-profit match may be “in kind” 
    • 100% of grant funds released once grant contract signed by all parties (usually 2-3 months from when proposal submitted). Any unused grant funds will need to be returned. 
    • 12 months to complete the project

Ohio EPA Recycling and Litter Prevention Grants

The Ohio EPA’s Recycling and Litter Prevention program offers large-scale, competitive grants to support communities, businesses and academic institutions that initiate or expand recycling programs, stimulate economic growth, and support litter prevention efforts.   • Market Development Grant

    Market Development Grant

    APPLICANT: Open to Ohio businesses, but must apply through a government sponsor (Hamilton County ReSource can act as a sponsor) 

    DATE: Applications open the first Monday in October (October 1, 2023) and close the first Friday in December (December 1, 2023).

    AMOUNT: $200,000 available for recycling equipment 

    DETAILS

    • Because this grant requires the business to have a government sponsor, you must notify Mary Cropenbaker if you are interested in applying for the 2024 grant cycle by October 15th, 2023
    • 100% cash/credit match required 
    • Grant funds released after final closeout report approved by OEPA
    • Grantees have 24 months to complete the project

  • Community & Litter Grant

    Community & Litter Grant

    APPLICANT: Open to local governments and nonprofits

    DATE: Applications open the first Monday in October (October 1, 2023) and close the first Friday in December (December 1, 2023).

    AMOUNT: Maximum grant request ranges from $3,000 to $200,000 depending on the project 

    DETAILS

    • Grant funds recycling equipment, curbside and drop-off recycling programs, special venue recycling, outreach and education, contamination reduction, tire amnesty events, surveillance cameras, litter clean-up and more.
    • 25% cash/credit match required 
    • 50% of grant funds released on July 1 and remaining funds released after closeout report approved by OEPA
    • Grantees have 12 months to complete the project

  • Scrap Tire Grant

    Scrap Tire Grant

    APPLICANT: Ohio EPA Scrap Tire Grant Offers Ohio businesses funding to create or expand scrap tire processing capacity and product manufacturing 

    Funds are also available for local governments and nonprofits to complete beneficial use projects that incorporate the use of ground tire rubber

    DATE: Applications open the first Monday in October (October 1, 2023) and close the first Friday in December (December 1, 2023).

    AMOUNT: $300,000 available per project 

    DETAILS

    • 100% cash/credit match required 
    • Governments and non-profits receive 50% of grant funds on July 1 and remaining after closeout report approved by OEPA 
    • Businesses receive grant funds once final closeout report approved by OEPA 
    • Grantees have 24 months to complete project

Federal Grants

Hamilton County ReSource is able to act as a government sponsor for federal grants. If you are interested in having ReSource act as a government sponsor on the behalf of your company, you must send a request to Mary Cropenbaker at least two months before the grant deadline and your project must meet the following qualifications:

  • The project has to contribute to the mission of ReSource and reduce material going to the landfill from Hamilton County
  • While ReSource staff are available to assist with editing and finding resources, you need to provide all the information for the grant application including project narratives, budget, and any necessary documentation.
  • All grants have to be approved by the ReSource Policy Committee and Hamilton County Board of Commissioners.

As a County department, we are subject to Freedom of Information Act requests and cannot promise that information you submit for the grant will stay proprietary.
